Today is Flag Day, and we know there are no greater flag lovers in this great land than the Alitos. Justice Alito might not abide by the Flag Code, or the Supreme Court’s flimsy non-binding ethics rules, or judicial precedent, but he sure has a lot of flags, and he sure likes to fly them outside his homes.

Indivisibles,

Today is Flag Day, and we know there are no greater flag lovers in this great land than the Alitos. Justice Alito might not abide by the Flag Code, or the Supreme Court’s flimsy non-binding ethics rules, or judicial precedent, but he sure has a lot of flags, and he sure likes to fly them outside his homes.

For instance, just weeks after the January 6th insurrection, when rioters used flags as weapons to attack Capitol police as they sought to invade the Capitol and prevent the peaceful transfer of power, Justice Alito had an upside-down American flag -- an insurrectionist symbol -- flying outside his home

And last summer, as the Supreme Court took a case related to the prosecution of those rioters, Alito had another flag -- this time an “Appeal to Heaven" banner popular with Christian Nationalist insurrectionists -- flying outside his vacation home in New Jersey!

We think a vexillophile like Alito should have as big a stage as possible to discuss his household’s love of flags, solidarity with insurrectionists, and how his allegiance to extreme Christian Nationalist ideology colors his rulings. Perhaps a televised hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee?

So this Flag Day, we’re asking you to contact your senators and demand they push for an investigation into Supreme Court corruption and haul Alito and other compromised MAGA justices in front of cameras to answer for their ethics violations and degradation of the court.

In the aftermath of the flag revelations, Justice Alito has tried out some unconvincing excuses as to why flying these Stop the Steal flags has no bearing on his rulings in cases related to Trump and January 6th.

But then, just this week, leaked recordings revealed his belief that our country is in a religious/culture war where only one side can prevail. Yikes.

Alito’s statements and behavior are disqualifying. Alito shouldn’t just recuse himself from cases he’s so clearly signaled opinions on -- he should resign.

But we know that’s not going to happen. Nor will he be impeached as long as Republican senators continue to excuse his conduct and run interference for MAGA justices on the court.

So what can be done? We can use investigations to uncover and shine a light on the corruption of the court and build public support for a binding code of ethics and structural reforms -- including expansion -- that can restore its legitimacy.

We can make this issue top of mind as voters decide a presidential election where the victor could appoint up to four more justices, shaping the court for a generation to come.

But if we want that to happen, Senate leaders need to do a lot more than they’ve done so far. And to make sure they do, we need to make some noise and demand action.

Tell your senators to push for investigations into Supreme Court malfeasance today >>

And to put it into language Alito and flag lovers everywhere will understand this Flag Day:

semaphore symbols (figures holding flags in various patterns to represent an alphabet)

(That’s semaphore for: INVESTIGATIONS NOW!)
