Trump is threatening to drag the US into a war with Iran -- a move that could ignite a regional conflagration and put our troops and countless civilians in harm’s way.

A man who deploys Marines against peaceful protesters is NOT someone who can be trusted to make sound judgments on the use of military force. Fortunately, our Constitution does not leave this call up to Trump. 

For far too long, Congress has relinquished its constitutional authority on matters of war and peace to the executive branch, but Article I could not be more clear: Congress has the sole power to declare war. And right now, a bipartisan group of legislators is scrambling to begin to take that power back. 

Members of Congress in the House and Senate have introduced war powers resolutions that would explicitly forbid the administration from entering into a war with Iran without congressional authorization. 

Two actions we’re asking you to take today: 

  1. Use our tool to email both of your senators, demanding they prevent Trump from dragging us into a disastrous war with Iran.
  2. Then, email your representative as well.

In both the House and Senate, war powers resolutions are privileged, meaning they will be fast-tracked to a vote -- Speaker Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Thune don’t have a say in the matter. 

And support for these bills spans traditional ideological divides, uniting everyone from Sen. Bernie Sanders to Republican Rep. Thomas Massie.

But there are still many within the Republican Party who fear defying Trump. And others, within the Democratic Party, too timid to take a position -- falsely believing that staying on the sidelines absolves them of the consequences of such colossal decisions. 

These members need to hear from their constituents right now. They need to know you don’t want the US charging into another dangerous, unnecessary war -- and that you damn well don’t want the decision resting with a guy threatening assassinations and mass-violence against millions on social media.
