Indivisibles,
That massive coverup of the Epstein files by Trump, the DOJ, and Republican leaders could be close to unraveling.
Last month, Speaker Mike Johnson shut down House business a week early to block a vote on their release. He -- and Trump -- hoped attention would dissipate and things would cool down after a long summer recess.
Nope. Congress returned this week, and so did demands for transparency and accountability. Victims descended on Capitol Hill to share their harrowing stories and demand justice. Desperate, Republican leadership tried to take the heat off themselves by putting 33,000 documents online and claiming the Epstein files had been released. Nothing else to see here, no need for a vote!
That didn’t work either. The dump represented a mere 1% of the total files in the investigation, and the vast majority contained information that was already public. No one was fooled.
So now -- in the face of obstruction, lies, and threats from the White House and Speaker’s office, Members of Congress are pushing forward with a discharge petition to force a vote on releasing the files. Only two more Republican members need to sign and this vote WILL happen.
Today, we’re asking you to call your representative and urge them to sign the discharge petition forcing a vote on the Epstein files. Use our call tool to tell them it’s time for the truth to come out and for abusers to face the music.
It’s been reported that the White House is running a massive pressure campaign to keep Republicans from signing the discharge petition. Members who’ve spent years pledging to expose Epstein’s associates are now becoming accomplices in the coverup for fear of political retribution if they defy Trump or embarrass the powerful people named in the files.
Tough. If Epstein’s victims could summon the bravery to speak publicly about their trauma, then these members can find the modicum of courage it takes to defy Trump and expose rich and powerful abusers.
But of course, they aren’t going to do the right thing on their own. We need to continue mounting constituent pressure above and beyond what these members are getting from Trump.
At a press conference this week, Rep. Thomas Massie -- the Republican who introduced the discharge petition along with Rep. Ro Khanna -- beseeched viewers: “Burn down the phone lines and stand up for these survivors.”
Let’s do it. Call your Republican representative today and demand they sign the discharge petition and force a vote on releasing the Epstein files immediately.
