Indivisibles,
Today, September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. To mark it, we’re calling on blue-state Indivisibles like you to help restore a vital suicide prevention lifeline for LGBTQ+ youth.
On July 17, the Trump regime quietly eliminated the “Press 3” option on the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline -- a vital, LGBTQ-specific resource that has served over 1.5 million young people since 2022. When LGBTQ+ folks reached out in their darkest moments, “Press 3” ensured they wouldn’t have to explain or defend who they are before receiving help.
Terminating specialized crisis intervention resources is a deliberate effort to strip support, visibility, and dignity from LGBTQ+ people -- starting with the most vulnerable, our youth. Unless states step in, millions of LGBTQ+ people will be left without a lifeline when they need it most.
Today, on World Suicide Awareness Day, please email your Democratic governor and urge them to create a state-level LGBTQ+ suicide prevention hotline that could save thousands of young lives.
Trump’s elimination of the LGBTQ-specific lifeline created a dangerous void in our mental health and suicide prevention systems -- but it is a gap that blue-state elected officials have the power to fill.
If you live in a state with a Democratic governor or legislature, your pressure matters! These leaders already have the tools, budgets, and political mandate to act, but they may need a push from their constituents.
Your calls and emails can make that happen. Use our email tool to urge your governor to create and fund an inclusive, state-level lifeline right now.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
P.S. If you'd like to do even more to support LGBTQ+ young people in your state, you can learn more about state-level lifelines here and email your state lawmakers here.
