Any funding deal that continues Republican healthcare cuts or hands Trump a blank check must not pass. Indivisibles,
We’re only ten days away from a crucial federal funding deadline, and Republicans appear fully committed to shutting down the government rather than doing anything at all to restore constitutional checks on Trump’s authoritarian power-grabs or stop his massive healthcare cuts.
Democratic leaders have pledged not to vote for a partisan funding deal that continues Trump’s healthcare cuts. But any deal to protect healthcare must also stop the Trump regime’s illegal misuse and weaponization of government funding and resources -- and some Senate Democrats still seem willing to surrender.
Back in March, Democrats caved, giving Republicans the votes needed to fund Trump’s chaos and cruelty. They cannot do so again. Not after they’ve seen how those taxpayer dollars have been used to crack down on dissent, militarize our cities, and terrorize our communities.
This time, Democrats need to show Trump and the American people that they’re willing to fight with all they’ve got for our democracy and our lives. That’s where our pressure comes in. In this pivotal moment, there are two things we need to make loud and clear:
Trump’s attacks on peaceful dissenters and political opponents are growing bolder and more dangerous -- suing media organizations, bullying networks into taking comedians off the air, deploying troops to cities, extorting law firms, and weaponizing the federal government.
These lawless abuses of power have only grown greater since Chuck Schumer and nine weak-willed Democrats* caved to Trump’s demands at the last funding deadline. Freely ceding power does not protect us from a tyrant; it only invites him to grow even more lawless.
Democrats need to stand strong at this moment. No blank checks. No healthcare cuts. No more chaos and lawlessness.
Please email your senators today. Any funding deal that continues Republican healthcare cuts or hands Trump a blank check must not pass.
Democrats have real leverage in this fight, and the Republicans who control both chambers are the ones responsible for passing a bipartisan funding bill. They must all hear us and be held accountable.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
*The Democrats who surrendered in March are: Schatz (HI), Durbin (IL), King (ME), Peters (MI), Hassan & Shaheen (NH), Cortez Masto (NV), Schumer & Gillibrand (NY), and Fetterman (PA). We have a special message for them. If your senator is on this list, click here to call and let them hear it.
