The President of the United States is a thug.

Trump is dragging our country into an unnecessary war of aggression with Venezuela at the cost of civilian lives, wounded US soldiers, and what little remains of our reputation on the world stage. 

Every time our spineless Congress refuses to stand up to Trump’s lawless actions -- whether he’s tearing apart federal agencies, using his secret police to round up citizens, or doing pathetic crap like naming arts venues after himself -- he becomes more emboldened. 

The mad wannabe-king is already threatening Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, and Iran and teasing military action to seize Greenland from Denmark. If Congress refuses to put checks on this illegal and immoral attack on Venezuela, there’s no telling how far he’ll go. 

This morning, the Senate will vote on War Powers legislation that would pump the brakes on Trump’s illegal war. Please use our call tool and script right now to tell your senators to back this vital legislation.

The Constitution couldn’t be clearer: The power to declare war lies with Congress, and Congress alone. Sadly, most of our senators and representatives have been all too happy to relinquish their authority to the executive, cravenly believing they’ll be absolved of the consequences of military action. 

It’s up to us to let Congress know that the American people will indeed hold them accountable for what comes next, if they do not act now to stop it. Any senator who refuses to back this war powers resolution will be as responsible as Trump for further loss of life, blowback against the US, and the emboldening of expansionist regimes across the globe.  

Americans oppose war with Venezuela, by overwhelming numbers (more than 70%). They understand that attacking and threatening to “control” Venezuela doesn’t make their lives better or enhance our national security. Nope -- like everything else Trump does, this is all about settling his own personal grievances and enriching his billionaire buddies -- in this case, the oil tycoons who happen to be the top corporate donors to his campaign. 

All of us need to raise our voices today and demand that our senators step in and stop this madness. Tell your senators to do their duty under the Constitution they swore to uphold and stop this unauthorized, immoral, illegal assault on the nation of Venezuela.
