Indivisibles,
Republicans just passed a bill handing ICE another $70 billion to separate families, kidnap innocent people off the street, occupy cities, and expand their concentration camps.
This is obviously not the result we were fighting for -- but it’s important to take a step back and recognize that your organizing made a difference in this fight. And then it’s important to lay the groundwork for making Republicans pay for this vote -- and the suffering it will cause -- at the ballot box this fall. So if you’re as angry as I am and want to do something about it, you can chip in to help us end Republicans’ majorities this November.
Your impact
At the start of the year, Democrats were signaling that they would lend their votes to an appropriations bill that gave ICE even more funding in exchange for half measures and piecemeal reforms. It was grassroots pressure in the wake of the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti that rallied Democrats into opposition. The service we use for connecting your calls to Congress said we broke their record for most calls in a month.
Once we got Dems into fighting shape, they stayed strong and refused to give ICE another penny. Republicans chose to leave the negotiating table, forcing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) into the longest shutdown in US history and requiring ICE and Border Patrol to spend down their reserves.
Then, Republicans tried to go it alone and ram through additional funding through the reconciliation process. Even with full control of Congress, we blocked and delayed them for weeks, exposed cracks in their coalition, and forced them to abandon the billion dollars they planned to spend on Trump’s ballroom.
This doesn’t make today’s vote any less devastating, but it does show that your organizing mattered and the regime is weaker than they want us to believe.
What we do next
Indivisible is ready to ramp up our work to defend our neighbors against ICE and Border Patrol. But at the end of the day, dismantling Trump’s deportation machine requires going on the offense and ending the Republican majorities that are supplying it with the funding of a national army. If we’re going to investigate DHS leadership and unmask their henchmen, claw back every dollar they took from our healthcare to fund their brutality, and ultimately tear DHS down to the studs, then we’re going to have to take back control of Congress.
Indivisible is already laying the groundwork to take back the House and Senate in November and end the careers of the craven goons who stole from you to shovel more money toward billionaire donors and murderous thugs. We’ve launched our Battlegrounds program in states with key races and we’re training thousands of volunteers to get out the vote and protect the results. But we can’t fund this work without your help. If you can spare a few dollars today, please pitch in and help us retake control of Congress.

Today, the regime got the vote that they wanted -- but they also hung an albatross around the necks of every vulnerable Republican in Congress. While families across the country are struggling to afford healthcare, housing, and food, Republicans in Congress signed off on giving $70 billion to Trump's mass deportation machine. They've made it clear that their priority is spending billions on out-of-control agencies that are tearing apart families rather than helping them, and we’re going to hammer them for it over the next five months.
Republicans have dug themselves into a hole, and their inability to stand up to Trump is forcing them to dig deeper and deeper. Now, it’s up to us to make sure the frustration and anger that everyday Americans are feeling translates into a vote for change at the ballot box. We’ll need to organize to get out the vote, overcome the GOP’s voter suppression tactics, and ultimately protect the results from any potential interference from the regime.
This work has already started, and now is when we need the most support from grassroots donors. If you’re ready to kick the regime’s enablers out of office, then please invest in this movement and donate today.
Between now and November, we’ll continue resisting the regime’s attacks on our communities, but winning back control of Congress is a critical, unavoidable step in holding DHS accountable.
In solidarity, Leah Greenberg Co-Executive Director, Indivisible
