This is it! This is literally the very last email for a primary candidate that you will see from me this year.
After wins in Georgia, New Jersey, New York, California, Michigan, Tennessee, and Minnesota, we’ve got one final race left: Patrick Roath up against a 25-year corporate-backed incumbent in a safe blue seat. Patrick won six local Indivisible groups' endorsements and garnered more than 95% support in the district vote for an Indivisible national endorsement, which is why I’m emailing you now to try to get him over the finish line in what is currently a coin-flip September 1 election. If that’s enough for you, you can donate to Patrick here and you can ignore everything else in this email. If you need some more details, read on.
Patrick Roath is a grassroots fighter! Patrick is an Indivisible candidate through and through. Professionally, he’s a pro-democracy advocate -- as a public interest lawyer and advocate he fought for and won automatic voter registration and universal mail-in voting in Massachusetts. And he’s pledged to pursue aggressive oversight of Trump’s crimes, from crypto to Epstein to ICE.
Patrick refuses money from crypto, AI, AIPAC, or any corporate PAC. His campaign is built with grassroots volunteers and grassroots support. Headed into next year, we need a class of pro-democracy champions energetically committed to retaking Congress and driving the Democratic Party to both rein in Trump and envision a bold post-Trump future. Patrick will be part of that class, if we help enough in the closing weeks of this campaign.
Stephen Lynch is holding the Party back. If reelected yet again, expect 25-year congressional incumbent Lynch to be a voice inside the Democratic Caucus next year advising caution, restraint, and compromise with Trump. While Patrick was standing behind immigrant families seeking asylum last year, Lynch was the only member of Congress from Massachusetts to vote with Republicans to expand ICE’s deportation powers with the Laken Riley Act.
That Republican-friendly vote is the same style of politics Lynch has been practicing since he first won elective office. He hasn’t held a town hall in nearly a decade, he bankrolls his campaigns with corporate dollars, and he sides with Republicans regularly. If he’s famous for one thing, it’s for being the only remaining Democrat in Congress to have voted against Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
We get the party we demand -- this is one last chance to make that demand. Patrick is building a grassroots campaign, which means he needs grassroots support. What we know about this race is that the more voters hear about Patrick, the more likely he is to win. Like so many candidates up against a corporate-funded status quo in safe districts, the main challenge is just getting the word out about the alternative. Grassroots contributions now will help him do that. Every single dollar you donate goes directly to Patrick’s campaign -- Indivisible will not keep a dime, because we think right now that’s where the money will do the most good.
I believe in putting my money where my mouth is, so as I finished writing the previous sentence, I personally donated $200 to Patrick. That ain’t gonna win it for him, but if you donate too, he’ll have $205, $250, $300, or $500 (depending on what you’re able to do). And that will buy a few burritos for overworked and underpaid campaign staff in Trump’s economy.
That’s it -- that’s the pitch. I hope you can support Patrick because he’s an excellent candidate who needs your help to get to Congress.
But regardless, this will be the last request you get from me or Indivisible for a primary candidate this year! Next up is crushing Trump in the midterms and putting an end to his lawless regime. Can’t wait.
