Indivisibles --

It’s now clear: This was the No Kings election. We are waiting for final counts in plenty of races, but even at this early hour, we know this is the product of historic grassroots-driven turnout against an out-of-control, would-be king, and his corrupt coterie of crooks, collaborators, and cowards. Today, we join the ranks of Hungarians, Brazilians, and Serbians who resoundingly rejected authoritarianism in national elections this year.

We built this wave from the ground up. This election day was not foreordained. In such a happy moment of patriotic celebration, I hesitate to take us back two years. But it’s important for us to remember what happened after Trump eked out a narrow win in 2024. Elites across America began to collapse. Law firms, businesses, corporate media, higher education -- hell, even some elements of Democratic Party leadership (ahem, Chuck Schumer) couldn’t bow fast enough.

One week after that election, as leaders were shellshocked or collapsing, we launched the new Indivisible guide to the next two years. We didn’t get everything right (e.g. we did not predict the full alliance between Big Tech and the Trump regime), but I think we got the big things right. In the chapter, “The plan to get through the next 2 years,” we pointed to 3 top level goals:

  1. We will throw in to say NO to Project 2025
  2. We will play hardball wherever we’ve got Democrats we can push to fight back
  3. We will work to protect and win elections -- turning national backlash into an electoral majority coalition that delivers big wins in 2026.

Those were words on a page two years ago. What followed was textbook organizing and mobilizing of a mass pro-democracy movement in opposition to an authoritarian breakthrough moment.

An historic grassroots wave. In the midst of this elite collapse in response to authoritarian breakthrough, normal everyday people around the country responded by rejecting elite consensus and building their own. Since Trump was re-elected, Indivisible helped lead six national mobilizations that each included more than 1,000 events across every state with millions of people showing up.

  • April 2025: Hands Off
  • June 2025: No Kings
  • October 2025: No Kings II
  • January 2026: Ice Out for Good
  • March 2026: No Kings III
  • October 2026: No Kings: Vote Early

The scale of this is mind boggling and historic. Taken together, we saw more than 13,000 anti-authoritarian protests and community events all around the country. And it did not simply send a message. It crescendoed in the biggest early vote effort in American history which produced by far the biggest early vote in the history of American midterms. More than 60 million Americans voted early this year -- that amounts to a more than 30% increase from the last midterms.

Y’all, this is bonkers. A wave like this doesn’t happen without all of you who showed up in the streets, made calls, knocked doors, registered voters, helped get people to the polls, and contributed in a million other ways. Indivisible volunteers sent millions of texts, made millions of calls, and knocked on thousands of doors. From me, Leah, everyone here at Indivisible -- thank you.

What’s next? We make sure Dems use the power the grassroots created. We will ensure every vote is counted and every duly elected official is seated. And when all is said and done, the House will be Democratic. The Senate will be Democratic. The gavels will change hands. And a new political reality will set in.

We’ll have time to go over some more of the details very soon. On Thursday at 3pm ET/12pm PT, Leah and I will host our post-election celebration, debrief, and look-ahead on What’s the Plan. We hope you’ll join us.

Together, we refused to give into elite consensus. This movement built something historic. And as a result we’ve won the opportunity to usher in an era of accountability and reform. We're going to seize it.

I cannot adequately describe on this amount of sleep and caffeine how proud I am of this movement, y’all. You have made history. Let’s go make some more.
