Indivisible
On Tuesday night, our movement won big. We flipped the House and silenced the critics who said progressives couldn’t deliver the blue wave.

Indivisibles:

Tuesday night, our movement won big.

We flipped the House. We flipped 6 state legislatures. And we moved the whole country to the left. 317 out of 435 Congressional districts (73%) were more blue on Tuesday than they were in 2016.

We proved everyone wrong (lookin’ at you James Carville), and we built the blue wave.

Just two short years ago, people were skeptical when we said we thought we could take back the House. And the truth is, they had good reason to feel that way.

Republicans had unified control of the federal government, and trifectas (control of the Governorships, state houses, and state senates) in states across the country.

How’d they get all that power?

Back in 2010, the Republican Party succeeded in their sinister plot to flip targeted state legislatures and the House, giving their party control over redistricting after the 2010 census. They drew gerrymandered districts to ensure a GOP House majority, no matter how unpopular their party became. And for a while, it worked -- until we came along.

You left it all out on the field for each and every legislative fight. As a result, you forced countless Republicans into early retirement, and gave the ones in tough districts few wins to run on. Then you fought like hell to flip your House seats from red to blue. And you were on the front lines of this election, making calls, knocking doors, texting voters, and contributing whatever you could afford to power this movement.

The next Congress was built by you.

Indivisibles in CA-49 showed up 49 weeks in a row (with an average of 370 constituents each and every week!) at Rep. Darrell Issa’s office before he announced he wouldn’t seek reelection. On Tuesday, they flipped the seat from red to blue, electing Democrat Mike Levin. And last night, the congressman-elect joined Indivisibles from his district at a Nobody Is Above the Law rally, and committed to #ProtectMueller when he’s sworn in in January.

In the early days of our movement, some dedicated Virginia Indivisibles followed Rep. Dave Brat (VA-07) everywhere he went. On January 31, 2017 he said, "The [Indivisible] women are in my grill no matter where I go." The Culpeper Persisters and Indivisible Arlington went out in full force to help elect Abigail Spanberger (say. her. name!), pounding the pavement, knocking on doors, and talking to voters for months. And on Tuesday night, Spanberger defeated Brat, and turned deep red Virginia blue.

From town halls to stop the repeal of the Affordable Care Act to retirement parties (that worked!), NJ 11th for Change held Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (a 23-year incumbent) accountable from Day 1. And when he retired, they turned their attention right to flipping that seat and electing Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill. They knocked on 15,000 doors before GOTV weekend, and helped Sherrill claim victory Tuesday night. She’ll be the first Democrat to hold this seat since 1985.

These are just a few of the stories stories that exemplify the Indivisible ethos to its core: let your members of Congress know how you feel about policies being debated in Washington. If they don’t listen, vote them out and replace them with candidates who’ll represent your district’s values. Through constant constituent pressure, volunteering for campaigns, or direct voter contact, Indivisibles had a hand in flipping AZ-02, CO-06, GA-06, IL-06, IL-14, NJ-7, NJ-11, NY-11, NY-19, VA-7, VA-10, and much, much more on Tuesday night.

These candidates were drafted by you. These candidates were endorsed by you. These candidates counted on your volunteer efforts to run exciting, impactful campaigns. And these candidates helped change what’s possible for progressives in 2020.

What’s next?

We’ve already mentioned this in a few emails, but we launch the next Indivisible Guide on Wednesday. We’re calling it Indivisible on Offense. It’s the next step in our movement’s work to build off of our policy and electoral wins, continue to reshape our democracy in 2019, and take back the White House in 2020.

If you’d like to help us get a head start on that effort, please consider making a contribution today to support the next phase of this movement.

Every little bit counts. Most importantly, grassroots donations like the ones we ask for in emails and on our website help us stick to our unique, successful model of trusting and investing in local leadership, empowering people to lead themselves by demystifying their constituent power.

In solidarity,
The Indivisible Team

PS -- In 2017, we made Congress listen. In 2018, we remade Congress. And in 2019, the next Congress will feature a new generation of brave, diverse, progressive leaders ready to fight for you. Watch this video we made celebrating our big wins on Tuesday, and consider chipping in for the next half of this fight!
