Have you planned your events yet?

Group Leaders,

It’s no secret that 2020 has been, in many ways, an extremely awful year. We’ve seen the culmination of multiple years of a historically corrupt and dangerous administration avoiding almost all accountability. We’ve seen senators ignore an impeachment inquiry and vote to acquit the president without even allowing witnesses. We’ve seen a global pandemic ravage the world, but hit the U.S. particularly hard, because those in power at the federal level choose to prioritize economic gain and profits for massive corporations over human lives and dignity. We’ve seen the continuation of profound injustice against Black folks. The list goes on and on, and sometimes it can feel really defeating.

But this year isn’t over -- and we have a responsibility to keep working to dismantle the systems of injustice that have allowed so much of this to happen. In addition to defeating Trump, it’s also critical that we lay the groundwork now to continue fighting for justice in 2021 and beyond. We’ve got to keep fighting to defund ICE, CBP, and local police departments, and redistribute funds to impacted communities. We’ve got to make sure that people get the support and health care they need as we continue to suffer the fallout of the woefully mishandled coronavirus crisis. We’ve got to keep pushing for D.C. statehood, to ensure that the nearly 700,000 residents of Washington have representation in their government. We’ve got to keep doing the work to build progressive political infrastructure in our communities, and so much more.

The path ahead may be uncertain right now, but one thing is certain: from now until November, we have the chance to do everything in our power to defeat Trump, and we must take it. Defeating Trump is an absolutely critical step in creating a better future, and we’ve got to do everything we can to make sure he is not re-elected. That’s why we’re gearing up for the Windivisible Unity Week of Action starting on July 27th. Now is the time to send a big message that our movement is ready and willing to do the work and that we don’t back down from a challenge. Read on for your top actions for this week.

Here are your top actions for the week ahead:

  1. Register to host an event for the Windivisible Unity Week of Action from July 27 through August 2. July 27 marks 100 days until the general election, and it also happens to be the third anniversary of Indivisibles defeating Trumpcare. So, in celebration and commitment to the work ahead, from July 27-August 2, Indivisible groups all over the country will be hosting phone banks and text banks as part of our unified digital program. We have big goals this year. Our network hopes to reach 20 million voters, and this week of action is the first step. Review our planning resource for more info, and remember to register your events on the event map. (We’ve also created a guide for registering events on the map for those who may need it. Check it out here!)
  2. Demand your senators pass the Heroes Act. The Senate will be back from recess starting next week, and we expect the Heroes Act to finally see movement. That means we’ve got to keep the pressure on Congress to make sure they know their constituents desperately need the provisions in this legislation. There are no excuses for the inaction of the Senate. Call your senator today and urge them to pass the Heroes Act ASAP. We’ve also recently launched a group leader working group on coronavirus legislation -- click here to sign up for more info on that body of work.
  3. Sign up for a shift calling voters during the Week of Action! Sign up for a shift making calls to voters in key states to connect them directly and make sure they're ready to take part in the 2020 election. You can volunteer from anywhere, and we'll follow up and make sure you have everything you need to contact voters once you sign up. In order to volunteer, folks will need access to a computer or tablet to log in to our remote phone-banking system as well as a phone to actually make the calls. RSVP for one or multiple shifts -- any amount of time you can commit to calling makes a real difference to help us WIN in November! Once you’ve signed up, you can also review our training video on using Hubdialer, our national phonebanking platform.
  4. Call your local officials to express your support to defund the police and invest in Black communities. So many of you joined the fight to support and protect people of color from state-sanctioned violence, but the truth is a lot of that work has to happen locally, in your towns and cities. Call your local officials and demand that they defund the police and invest those funds in resources. If you need more context, check out our latest video where we explain exactly what we mean by #DefundThePolice.
  5. Call your senators and demand they cosponsor the D.C. statehood bill. This historic bill passed in the House last week, acknowledging that D.C.’s 700,000+ residents live without their constitutional rights as Americans, lacking full representation in Congress and control over their own affairs. A historically-Black city, D.C.’s lack of statehood is a remnant of Reconstruction when racist white politicians sought to prevent the District’s plurality of Black residents from gaining political power. Check out our resource about why D.C. statehood is a racial justice issue and call your senators to demand they support D.C. statehood.

RIGGED: The Voter Suppression Playbook Virtual Screening

The screening will be followed by a 30-min panel discussion on the topic of democracy in the time of COVID and the impact it has on voter suppression particularly in Black and brown communities. The panel will include speakers from the Indivisible group Diversity Matters, members from the local NAACP group, the Executive Producer of the film and the Director of Voting Rights Program from The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Distributed Fundraising -- New Match Campaign Begins Soon

From July 27th through September 20th, all of the funds your group raises through the distributed fundraising program will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to a maximum of $350 per group!

The distributed fundraising program sets your group up with an ActBlue page to collect contributions and a debit card to spend the funds you raise -- all without the hassle of forming your own 501(c)(4). Our hope is that this program will help relieve some of the financial strain of your group’s work while building relationships and support within your community.

The match starts on July 27th, but don’t wait until then to sign up. Select one person from your group to be the treasurer and have them fill out the application here. (If you don’t already have a login, just go to IndivisibleHQ.org and create one to fill out the form.)

We’ll be sending out guides and tools to make sure you can take full advantage of the match, including sample fundraising emails, social media posts, and more. Until then, be sure to check out our existing fundraising guides to get started building your fundraising plans!

Join our webinar on Tuesday, July 21st at 8:30pm ET (Register here) to:

  • Get an overview of the distributed fundraising program
  • Talk more about the matching campaign
  • Do a deep dive into political spending -- how to spend your funds supporting political candidates
  • Learn more about our GROW grant program.

If you’re not already enrolled in the program, click here to sign up today, and feel free to reach out to fundraising@indivisible.org with any questions.
