All our priorities are within reach, but only if we achieve long-overdue democracy reforms to make sure our government is accountable to the people

Robert,

This week, we’ve been thrilled to see Democrats starting to speak out on the filibuster. Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the Senate are counting on making this issue seem like a complex, wonky rule, but it’s really pretty simple -- the filibuster is what Republicans in the minority use to stop progress. From civil rights legislation in the 1960s to our 2021 progressive agenda of desperately needed COVID-19 relief, healthcare, immigration, climate, economic justice, voting rights, D.C. statehood, and more, conservatives use the filibuster to obstruct when they're not in power.

With a Democratic trifecta in the federal government, all these priorities are within reach -- but only if we achieve long-overdue democracy reforms to make sure our government is accountable to the people. That starts with taking away McConnell’s favorite obstructionist tool, the filibuster.

We’ve got a plan to make it all happen. It’s going to take a lot of work: writing resources and in-depth policy explainers, building websites, hosting calling tools, and helping develop activists on the ground across the country. The stakes are high, and the costs are too -- all in all, we’re looking at a multi-million dollar effort to enact real change this year. We rely on grassroots support from people like you to make it possible.

Here are two ways you can get involved and help save democracy:

  1. Today: Donate to Indivisible to keep our call page active, fund our continually updated policy guidance, and keep us working on this and all our upcoming fights this year.

  2. First thing Monday morning: Call your senators to demand that they hold firm and not give in to McConnell’s gambit to hold on to power in the Senate.

From the Trump tax scam and protecting the Affordable Care Act to building a nationwide grassroots network of policy activists, Indivisibles have been hard at work for years in service of a vision for what this country can become when we give power to the people. We have a chance to accomplish major progressive change this year on all our priorities, and it all hinges on creating a democracy that serves us. We’re ready to make it happen -- and we’re thrilled you’re here with us.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
