Indivisibles,

We’ve seen it in schools and state legislatures across the country: The war on diversity, equity, and inclusion is a core feature of the Republican platform in 2024.

Now they’re saying the quiet part out loud.

Following the MAGA majority on SCOTUS gutting affirmative action last year, Trump’s allies are doubling down -- not only are they looking to end anti-racist protections for BIPOC Americans, but they’re even looking to use the same laws meant to protect marginalized Americans to instead focus on the fake threat of “anti-white racism.”

Trump has nurtured the worst brand of vile, white-supremacist hate disguised as patriotism within his party, keeping those who share his dangerous beliefs close while driving everyone else to fall in line.

If you’re a woman, you’re not safe.
If you’re LGBTQ+, you’re not safe.
If you’re a minority, you’re not safe.
If you’re all of the above…

The 2024 election is not just about keeping a narcissistic insurrectionist out of office. It is about defending the soul of this country -- the soul that has led countless people to seek refuge here yearning for a better life.

When we say that a second Trump presidency is a danger to this country, it is not solely to the idea of America. Trump is a danger to the people who live here, to the people who come here, and to the people who are just trying to live a peaceful life across the world whose safety will be at Trump’s whims.

It is on every one of us to make sure that doesn’t happen.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 4 weekly to-dos

  1. Sign up to defend democracy from Trump with Project 2024: Majority Over MAGA. Our Project 2024 was made in direct opposition to Trump’s dangerous MAGA objectives. This new electoral program will ensure Indivisibles all across the country have the opportunity to make a difference in the highest-priority races this cycle and prevent a MAGA catastrophe from taking place. This will include tactics like phonebanking, postcarding, and direct-to-voter texting along with our groundbreaking community conversation strategy: Neighbor2Neighbor. Sign up to be the first to know when we launch our tools in your area.
  2. Call your senator and demand they protect in vitro fertilization (IVF) access nationwide. The MAGA agenda did not just stop at repealing Roe. They intend to ban contraception, IVF, gender-affirming care, marriage equality, and more. Sen. Tammy Duckworth has introduced the Access to Family Building Act, a bill that would enshrine access to IVF and related services as a federal right, protecting both would-be families and their medical providers. If your senator is a Democrat, call and make sure they are a cosponsor. If your senator is a Republican, tell them to put their money where their mouth is, pass this bill, and actually support families.
  3. When you’re finished calling, send your senators an email urging them to protect IVF access.
  4. Email your Member of Congress (MoC) about cosponsoring H.R. 732 -- the Save Medicare Act. We know the MAGA agenda includes ending Medicare as we know it -- and a big part of their scheme includes handing the reins to private insurers. But we’ve seen what happens when greedy insurance companies are put in charge: Medicare Advantage, the privatized option for Medicare, is rampant with fraud and overspending. If we allow insurance companies unchecked power to run the program, we risk sticking millions of Americans with coverage that promises quality healthcare only to deny coverage for essential care and services. Congress must hold these predatory Medicare Advantage plans accountable, and that starts with blocking the deceptive naming of these private plans.

P.S. We rely on grassroots supporters to help fund the tools Indivisibles use on a daily basis -- including the call pages and email tools on your to do list! If you're able, pitch in today to help fund our work and keep this movement going.

Call for a Humanitarian Ceasefire

**Content Warning: Talk about the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Jump to the line break if you need to avoid this topic.**

After a two-week raid, Israeli troops have pulled out of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, leaving behind “rubble and bodies.”

As a local Palestinian, Osama al-Ashi, reported to The New York Times:

“As soon as you approach Al-Shifa Hospital, you’re hit with the stench of decomposing bodies...The whole time we were walking, we were stepping on body parts…The medical equipment, the beds, the administrative buildings -- everywhere, everything is burned.”

This has gone far beyond rooting out Hamas and has become an attack on Gaza’s infrastructure. After months of bombing, if Gazans wanted to return, how would they receive the medical attention they will desperately need to survive?

We grieve the over 33,000 Palestinians who have been killed since October 7th including more than 13,000 children. We must also remember that the more than 75,000 living Gazans who have been injured in that same period will need ongoing, and often serious, medical attention. If Netanyahu’s military continues to dismantle the medical infrastructure of Gaza, they will have nothing to return to.

We all have one goal -- the return of hostages, free access to aid, and an end to the violence. The current path of war will not bring us closer to peace. Even families of Israeli hostages don’t believe Netanyahu’s administration is working toward the return of their people.

It’s time our representatives do everything they can to promote peace.
