This is a HUGE win for abortion rights and the future of our democracy

Christine,

We just won the most important election of 2023.

Janet Protasiewicz’s victory tonight creates a liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court ahead of anticipated seismic cases on abortion access, voting rights, and fair maps.

It puts an end to the judicial rubber stamp for the rigged legislature’s experiments in anti-majoritarian governance in a state that has become a testing ground for the GOP’s efforts to lock in minority rule across the country.

This win will likely result in abortion rights being restored in the state. It could lead to the first fair elections in years for the state’s legislature and even result in newly competitive seats in the House of Representatives ahead of 2024. Repro rights, LGTBQ+ rights, academic freedom, blocking another Trump coup attempt -- cases on all these issues could be decided by a liberal court instead of a MAGA activist majority thanks to this win. And it couldn’t have happened without the work of Indivisibles in Wisconsin and across the country.

THANK YOU, CHRISTINE, FOR MAKING THIS VICTORY POSSIBLE.

Over the course of the primary and general elections, Indivisible volunteers and donors helped:

📱 Send 560,000 texts, reaching EVERY likely Democratic registered voter with a number on file in Wisconsin. Your generous support allowed us to run the largest GOTV texting program for Judge Janet of any organization this election.

📬 Write and deliver 23,220 hand-written postcards to potential voters throughout the state.

🚪 Deploy our Neighbor2Neighor Program to enable Wisconsin Indivisibles to have deep conversations within their communities about the stakes of the election.

💸 Provide direct financial support for Illinois Indivisibles to organize weekend canvasses.

📻 Air radio ads in Madison in the week leading up to the election.

Clearly, other events are likely to dominate the front pages tomorrow, overshadowing the significance of tonight’s victory. But the real celebrations are still to come. They’ll come again and again over the next few years as rulings are handed down that protect personal freedoms, advance justice, and expand our democracy.

We’re so proud of the way this movement came together, recognized the importance of this off-year judicial race when few were talking about it yet, and showed up in a big way to ensure the pro-choice, pro-democracy candidate prevailed.

Thanks again for everything you did to make tonight possible.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
